Diet after appendicitis: what you should not. Basic principles and sample menu diet after appendectomy

Appendicitis is a very common surgical disease, which represents inflammation of the Appendix (appendage of the cecum).

The disease can occur at any age, but most often he is exposed to people from 10 to 30 years.

In the first days after surgery, the intestines need time to recover. Therefore, the first 12 hours after surgery is permitted only to moisten the lips with water, if necessary.   • carbonated drinks
  • spicy food, spices, condiments,
  • alcohol
  • strong tea and coffee,
  • any solid food.

Sample menu diet after appendectomy for 2-3 days:

Mashed baked pumpkin.

Broth hips.

Vegetable broth-based potato, onion, cauliflower.

Mousse steamed cod.

Squash puree.

Low-fat yoghurt with no additives.

Jelly from the fruit.

Week after surgery: diet after appendectomy

Diet after appendicitis at this stage are aimed at creating favorable conditions for recovery and healing of the intestine and restore its operation.

It is important to avoid constipation. Following the principles of the diet the first three days, allowed to add:

  • products that contain fiber (carrots, baked apples, dried fruit, porridge from cereals, cooked in water),
  • lean meats (chicken, rabbit, veal),
  • of lean fish (preferably sea),
  • 10-15g of butter
  • low-fat dairy products (kefir, yoghurt, sour cream).

Special attention should be paid to water consumption. This will prevent dehydration and the additional stress of the body and helps normalize the bowels. It is recommended to drink 1.5-2l of fluid per day. A large part should be still water that is less herbal and green teas, fruit drinks and fruit juices with no sweeteners. Drink 1-2 glasses of water before and after meals, to maintain the water balance. Necessary to exclude strong tea and coffee, store-bought juices, any carbonated beverages.

An example of a diet diet after appendectomy in the first week:

Oatmeal with dried apricots, rubbed.

Chicken meatballs in its own juice, steamed.

Puree boiled beets.

  • sodas.

Should limit the use of corn, bananas and potatoes because of the high content of starch, as well as pears, nectarines and grapes because of the high sugar content.
